Moro Mariano  - Bio

Murano Glass Master

Moro Mariano was born in 1957 on the small island of Burano, Venice. At a very young age (13 years old) he began working with glass at the renowned "Cristalleria Santi" factory on the Island of Murano.

From "Cristalleria Santi" Mariano began moving from factory to factory to improve his skills and knowledge of the glass techinques. During this time Mariano learned the closely guarded secrets that are in the hands and minds of many glass masters working on the island. During this time Mariano was given the opportunity to work with the famous Ermanno Nason for 3 months.

At age 20,  Mariano decided to move to the studio of Livio Seguso, now a legend in the history of Murano and international contemporary glass art.

From the first day Mariano worked beside Eio Raffaeli the current Master at Livio Seguso. Mariano stayed with Elio's "piazza" (Working team) when they left Livio Seguso's Studio to start a new venture.

In 1982 two glass masters, Elio Raffaeli and Roberto Cammozzo and one "molatore" (cold shop master), Vianello Renzo, became partners to form the "Ars Murano" Studio. The guidance of masters Roberto Cammozzo and Elio Raffaeli ripened Mariano's skills as a master in the art of glass sculpture.

Moro Mariano  works exclusively in the Ars Murano studio where he leads his own "piazza" since 2002. He prefers to create the modern pieces and sculptures for which Ars Murano is famous not only in Italy but also internationally.

Mariano Morohas worked for famous artists: Robert Willson (USA), Duncan Mclellan (USA),  Vania Galli (Italy) and others.

Mariano Moro still lives on Burano Island with his wife and his two sons.
